"Sure it's creative, but did it work?"
That's the question you ought to be asking yourself when you view a writer's portfolio. Did the ad put butts in the seats or raise brand awareness? Did the commercial produce hits on a website or clear out an inventory?
Over the years, I've worked at some of the most successful retail ad agencies in Portland, where the results of my efforts were sometimes measured on a daily basis. Most retail clients can't afford a bad sales weekend, and few clients can afford to waste their budgets on advertising that doesn't move the needle.
